Why Organic Living Soil?
Many soil products are light and airy carriers for fertilizer, but they lack meaningful biology. Our soil blends are based on foodscrap compost that is filled with the living, breathing microorganisms that can help plants thrive. Our mixes start with soil life, and we build up from there.
We think soil mixes can—and should—be a source of diverse microbiology. They shouldn't be vacuum-sealed or sterilized, and freeze-dried spores cannot make up for a microbiome full of nematodes, bacteria, fungi, and protists.
Everything we make is National Organics Program compliant and suitable for organic production, and every plant grown in Tilth helps keep foodscraps out of landfills and returns the nutrients in those plants back to farm fields and garden beds.
The Bigger Picture
Tilth is a part of a worker-owned cooperative that collects and composts around 4,500 TONS of food scraps each year. And we're just getting started.
We are committed to equitable pay, benefits, and work conditions for our entire team because we believe a happy and healthy planet starts with happy and healthy people.

Couldn't ask for better
This season we used Sprout to start all of our seedlings and the results speak for themselves. We do a lot of transplanting on our vegetable farm and couldn’t ask for a better product.

The soil is fantastic
The soil is fantastic. We haven’t changed anything about our garden except for the soil, and our plants are healthier, happier, and more fruitful. Service was friendly and knowledgeable.

Specifically sought out
We specifically sought out Wendell because of its superior reputation around town. I was blown away with not only how rich Wendell is but how balanced it is! I grew squash next to tomatoes and didn’t have to amend the soil any further to meet the needs of any given vegetable that I had planted.
